Getting to know Merzouga
Merzouga is a desert destination on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. It is best known for camel excursions, desert camps, sunrise and sunset experiences, and trips into the surrounding Sahara landscapes.
Set on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes in southeastern Morocco, this small desert destination is closely connected to the landscapes and communities of the Sahara. The surrounding area is characterized by vast sand dunes, rocky desert plains and small settlements, with tourism centered around experiencing the desert rather than exploring a large urban center. Visitors can combine camel excursions and overnight desert camps with sunrise and sunset experiences, traditional food, music and encounters with local desert culture. Its remote setting is also an important part of the experience, offering clear night skies and a very different pace from Morocco's larger cities.
